Pascal Campion is one of the most respected digital illustrators of his generation. Growing up in River Edge, New Jersey, Pascal found his artistic calling as a child while copying the covers of his favorite comic books. Moving to the south of France, he engaged in a sweeping study of the landscape and culture which also played a key role in developing his talents.

A Narrative Illustration graduate from the École des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg, Pascal Campion safeguards the essence of traditional narration while embracing new technologies. The gift of a computer from his brother opened up a world of possibilities and he soon established himself as a pioneer in the field of digital design.

Pascal Campion has enjoyed a rich and varied career. Jack-of-all-trades, he alternates between scriptwriting for Disney, directing short films, and illustrating for The New Yorker. He has worn an impressive number of hats and excelled while wearing each one, including animation. His love for this field is apparent in the list of collaborations including iconic films such as Moana, Klaus, The Penguins of Madagascar and The Secret Life of Pets.

One of his most personal projects is his “sketch of the day”. Over several years, what began as a daily exercise has become thousands of colored drawings shared on social media. These sketches reflect the beauty of life’s fleeting moments, whether daily life with his children or a snapshot of his surroundings, all with prodigious authenticity. More recently, Pascal Campion also forayed into publishing as the illustrator of two children’s books, The Kingdom of Paper and Rosa’s Song. And this past January, his book The Art of Pascal Campion was released, giving fans a behind the scenes look at his creative process.

Paris Design Week, a highlight on the capital’s art and design calendar, is a chance for visitors to meet designers from around the world and admire their work. VELUX created VELUX ART in the same spirit, as a showcase for artists. Transformation and escapism are at the heart of the artistic approach. Just as natural daylight can completely transform a room, art has the power to alter a person’s psyche, carrying them off on the wings of imagination. VELUX ART invites you to discover the vision and creative universe of Pascal Campion who is exhibiting a dozen works at the Galerie Joseph.
